The Common Core State Standards say that for students to be college ready, they need to:

  • Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others. (publish student works on the wiki and allow for classroom comments; allow older students to collaborate within the wiki to create works)

  • Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, assess the credibility and accuracy of each source, and integrate the information while avoiding plagiarism. (link reliable sources to your page for younger students; link writing support websites like the Purdue Online Writing Lab for older students)

  • Make strategic use of digital media and visual displays of data to express information and enhance understanding of presentations. (allow students to practice web design, communication, and publication in the safety of a closed environment)

  • Prepare for and participate effectively in a range of conversations and collaborations with diverse partners, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively. (create message boards for students to discuss complex issues. The best part is that the teacher can participate in every conversation!)
